TRACK & FIELD Yale alum Kate Grace ('11) qualified for the women's 800-meter Olympic final, cruising into third place in Thursday evening's semifinal with a new personal best of 1:58.79. She will be one up against the best middle distance runners from across the world in the eight-woman final Saturday evening at 8:15 p.m. Eastern. Stephen Mozia (Cornell '15) recorded a throw of 18.98 meters but it wasn't far enough to move him out of the qualifying round of the men's shot put. Mozia, who competes for Nigeria, faulted on his first two attempts and finished in 28th place overall, 1.42 meters away from the 12th and final qualifying spot. Columbia junior Akua Obeng-Akrofi did not run for Ghana’s 4x100m women’s relay team, which placed eighth in their heat with a time of 43.37. Princeton women's track & field assistant coach Priscilla Frederick competed in the qualifying round of the women's high jump, but did not advance to the final after closing out with a clearance of 1.89m (6-2.50) to finish 28th overall. Princeton men's track & field assistant coach Robby Andrews had a heartbreaking result as he was disqualified in semifinal 2 after originally qualifying for the final as one of the top five finishers. Down the back stretch, Andrew found himself boxed in between two runners and when he tried to make a move inside he was bumped and his foot stepped outside the rail. Although he finished finished to advance to the finals, he was disqualified for stepping out. Team USA is appealing the decision.
SAILING The USA men’s 470 team of Stu McNay (Yale ‘05) and Dave Hughes, mathematically unable to reach the podium in the medal race, finished a strong 2nd in the double-points race and defended their position in 4th place overall.
