A pair of Tigers brought in two more medals for the #IviesinRio, bringing the total to six, including three gold.

Women's Water Polo

Princeton senior Ashleigh Johnson ('17) backstopped Team USA to its second-straight Olympics Gold medal, recording nine saves in a 12-5 win over Italy in the championship match. Johnson finished the Rio games with a 64.5 percent save percentage, while USA became the first-ever team to win consecutive gold medals at the Olympics.

Johnson even helped out on offense. Late in the third quarter, Johnson came away with a save and threw a long pass down the pool to Makenzie Fischer, who quickly passed it off to Melissa Seidemann who had all defenders beat. Seidemann put it in the goal to put the U.S. up 8-3, their largest lead of the game to that point.

Women's Soccer

This time, a couple of Diana Matheson's (Princeton '08) teammates did the scoring, but the result was the same: an Olympic medal will come home to Canada for the 2008 Princeton graduate and her Canadian soccer teammates.

Canada defeated Brazil 2-1 in the Bronze medal match. Canada went unbeaten heading into an Olympic semifinal match with Germany Tuesday before the Germans dealt Canada its first loss of the Games, 2-0. Three days later, the Canadians had to regroup to face a Brazilian side looking to secure a medal on its own soil.

Matheson and Johnson became the second and third Tigers to medal at the Rio Games, joining American Gevvie Stone '07, who brought home a silver in the women's single sculls.

Wrestling

Harvard assistant coach Bekzod Abdurakhmonov, competing for Uzbekistan, fell in the opening round of the freestyle 74 kg but then bounced back with a convincing 11-1 win over 2012 gold medalist and 2016 favorite Jordan Burroughs to stay alive in the competition. Abdurakhmonov still has a chance at a bronze medal.
